What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing modality, which means the practitioner’s hands lay on or hover above the client’s body while directing Reiki energy into any parts of the body that need healing. It is a Japanese healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is administered by the practitioner laying their hands on the client and is based on the idea that unseen universal life energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s universal life force is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Is Reiki against my religion?

Not at all. Reiki is not a religion, nor is there any deity or dogma attached to it. It is Universal Life Force Energy and works for all creeds, races, religions, etc.

What should I wear to my session?

Wear anything loose-fitting that you are comfortable in. You will remain clothed, take your shoes off and will be able to lay comfortably on a massage table covered with a blanket, or on top of the blanket depending on whichever makes you feel more comfortable.

Do I need to do anything prior to my session?

There is nothing official that you have to do before a Reiki session. Some people like to be as clear as possible before their session and will refrain from drugs and alcohol that day, in order to take in as much healing energy as possible. Others will meditate or mantra before their session…but nothing is needed from you in order for the Reiki energy to work. That being said…the more clear and open you are…the deeper the healing will go, so I suggest no drugs or alcohol before or after your session, unless they are prescribed by a doctor.

Do I need to do anything after my session?

I would suggest allowing yourself the rest of the day to do something nonstressful and good for you, such as writing, hiking in Nature or just plain relaxing and/or napping as the Reiki energy will be processing inside of you for the whole day after you leave.

To get the best benefit of your healing, allow yourself to rest after, and not return to a busy hectic schedule right after. After Reiki…meditations, writing, self-healing and intention writing are all supported and go a bit deeper. Take advantage of the boost of Life Force!

What will Reiki feel like?

At times, you will feel my hands get very hot, some people also have reported feeling tingles and electricity wherever my hands go, bursts of energy, feeling as if they are releasing worries, anxieties and anger, mild dizziness, clients having bursts of laughter and/or crying has happened…all of which are very normal and healing for Reiki, as it works on your emotions, and causes hidden unexpressed emotions to release themselves, making more room for you to bring in new and good energy and emotions.

Will Reiki still work if I fall asleep?

Definitely. In fact…it may even work better if you are asleep because your mind will be “off” and the energy will be allowed to go deeper within you to help with things on the subconscious level.

Reiki works wonders whether you are awake or asleep.

What can I expect a Reiki session

at The Healing Woods to be like?

It will begin with an intake conversation, in which I will ask you what you would like to work on, and get a bit of history on what is ailing or bothering you at the moment. We will then get into the session, where you will lay face up on a comfy massage table either under or on top of the blankets…whatever makes you most comfortable. If you are pregnant, I have a special way of supporting your body with pillows, and you will be in a very comfortable side-lying position.

I will then place different stones and crystals on your chakra points and will begin the session with some aromatherapy.

During the session, I will be hovering over and placing my hands on all of your chakras, making sure they are all open, unblocked and playing nicely with each other. I will, for the most part, be silent during this, but if you are open to me speaking about things I am feeling or sensing…we will establish this in the beginning, and we could have little discussions during the session if you are open to them.

You will be in a safe place to release emotions, express frustrations or anything else you want to talk about…the hour is yours to do anything that helps you.

Since I am a bodyworker as well…I sometimes will do massage on places I feel have tension like neck, shoulders or feet.

Towards the end of the hour, I will lead you in a grounding meditation and end the session with a mini sound bath using a Tibetan Singing Bowl.

You are guaranteed to float out of The Healing Woods. 9 times out of 10, people remark on how light they feel right after a session.
