Earth Day...even more Deeply

On Earth Day's past I would go on a long hike in the mountains or swim in the ocean to immerse myself in Nature to honor my connect to the earth.

This year I have another level of connection to the earth...my plot of earth that I have to create lots of life with.

For the past 30 years I have lived in courtyards where I only had a few feet of earth to plant in and I did what I could with it, and lots of potted plants on my porch.

Now I have so much land to create life with, so instead of searching out a hike or beach for Earth Day, I stayed home and celebrated my plot of Earth showing me she likes what I have been doing here.

My garden has been my place of solace since moving in here running for my life from The Eaton Fire, and when I first moved in, there were a lot of dead plants, compacted clay dirt and dead grass everywhere since my mom was unable to take care of anything outside.

I began helping this land by watering and planting shade trees and fruit trees...but then I learned that more water isn't necessarily the answer with clay soil, so I did a deep dive on how to amend my type of soil in order to promote easier growth for the all the new plants I am planting and to heal some of the trees and older plants that are barely hanging on from the years of neglect.

Today I was watering my butterfly garden, which was where I began my ER of the soil about a month ago and I spotted A TON of mushroom babies which tells me that the earth is loving the soil amending I did...I am so proud of these guys!

In a time when it feels so out of control in my life and the world in general and I feel as if I am screaming into the void at times, it helps to see that choices and actions I made are now bettering the Earth immediately around me.

It all starts with me.

Having a deeper connection to the soil I live on roots Earth Day even more for me and I am excited to get some raised boxes built so I can really start a food farm here!
